Ordering a Bespoke Pond Window: Measurements and Quote Checklist

3 min read

To quote for a bespoke pond viewing window, Fusion Glass needs more than a width and height. Send a dimensioned sketch, tell us whether the dimensions describe the glass or the visible opening, mark the intended water level, and explain how the panel will be supported. Include the delivery postcode so we can check the supply and delivery requirements together.

1. Separate the visible opening from the overall glass size

The visible opening is the part of the window you see through. The overall glass size includes any part hidden behind the surrounding wall, frame or rebate. They are not automatically the same dimensions. Label both on the sketch if they are known, rather than describing either one simply as the window size.

Record dimensions in millimetres and identify which measurement is width and which is height. If the opening has already been built, send photographs as well as measurements. Your installer should confirm the required support, clearances and final manufacturing sizes before the order is approved.

2. Mark the water level and supported edges

Show the intended water surface on a front view of the window. Also show the bottom of the panel and identify the edges supported by the structure. Panel height alone does not describe the water load. A panel with a free top edge needs to be considered with its actual support arrangement.

Glass thickness depends on dimensions, water depth, support conditions and the glass construction. Do not choose a thickness only because a panel of similar size appears in a photograph. Unusual spans, corner windows or deeper installations may need project-specific structural review.

3. Explain the pond construction

Tell us whether the pond is brick or block built, sleeper built, fibreglass lined or uses a liner. Include a sketch of the frame or rebate and any proposed corner joint. If another panel overlaps the window, show the overlap and explain the installation sequence. These details help avoid a quotation being based on the wrong arrangement.

The installer should agree the support and sealing details before manufacture. Our installation guide gives background on common arrangements; it does not replace a design for a particular structure.

4. Include delivery and handling details

Send the full delivery postcode, an on-site contact number and any access restrictions. Explain whether there are narrow lanes, limited vehicle access, a steep driveway or a restricted unloading area. Ask us to confirm the panel weight and delivery arrangements before you organise labour or lifting equipment.

Our glass delivery is curbside, with offloading arranged by the customer. Do not assume the delivery vehicle carries a forklift or that the driver can move the panel into the garden. Confirm any special requirement before placing the order.

Common ordering questions

Can I get a quotation before the final glass sizes are known?

Yes. Mark provisional dimensions clearly so the quotation can be treated as an estimate based on those details. Final dimensions and specification must be confirmed before manufacture. A provisional quotation should not be treated as approval of a finished opening.

Does the price include delivery and VAT?

Check the individual quotation or product listing. Website product prices are shown as VAT included, while a bespoke quotation may itemise VAT and delivery separately. Certain postcodes attract additional delivery charges. Ask for the total payable for your postcode rather than comparing the glass price alone.

Can Fusion Glass install the window?

Fusion Glass supplies the glass and provides product guidance. We do not carry out installation. Arrange a suitable installer and agree the structure, final dimensions and handling plan with them.
