Balcony Case Study: Clear Views with Opaque Glass Privacy Sides
A balcony can need open views in one direction and privacy in another. For this customer project, Fusion Glass supplied clear glass for the front of the balcony and opaque glass for the sides, together with 316 grade stainless steel posts. The layout keeps the outlook open while screening views between neighbouring gardens.

The brief: preserve the outlook and add side privacy
The customers wanted to make the most of their balcony and its views. Using opaque glass across every side would have obscured the outlook they wanted to enjoy. Clear glass on every side would have left the side boundaries more exposed. The supplied combination gives each part of the balustrade a different purpose.

Why mix clear and opaque glass?
The clear front panels maintain a view through the balustrade. The opaque side panels screen direct views through the glass towards adjoining gardens. They provide a different result from a dark tint, which can still allow views through the panel.
Privacy also depends on where neighbours can see from and how high the screening needs to be. A side panel that works from a seated position may not provide the same screening from an upstairs window. Discuss the viewing angles and the desired opaque finish before ordering.
